India ranks 177th out of 180 countries on the 2018 Global Environment Performance Index (EPI) rankings. This is a drop of 36 ranks from 2016, just 2 years ago. The state of the environment affects our health, safety and well-being in more ways than we realise on a daily basis.
United Way Mumbai works to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. On the occasion of Earth Day, United Way Mumbai invites corporates and their teams of employees to help make Mumbai cleaner, greener and safer.
Your team’s time and a small donation will help –
REJUVENATE a lake
Help clean up Lokhandwala Lake in Andheri West. Volunteers will work in groups to collect trash from the edge of the lake and be sensitized to the need for waste management.
CONSERVE our Mangroves
Save mangroves along Palm Beach Road by removing the plastic and other waste that clogs their aerial roots. Volunteers will work in the wetlands, participate in a nature trail and learn about the mangrove ecosystem.
PROTECT our Shores
Reduce marine pollution by cleaning & segregating waste along beaches in Dadar, Mahim, Bandra & Versova. Volunteers will join in a shore walk, segregate & track different kinds of waste and help protect our shoreline.
BUILD healthier Ecosystems
Butterflies are indicators of healthy ecosystems. Volunteers will plant trees and shrubs that attract species of butterflies and create habitats for them within Mumbai. Each group of volunteers will plant about 300 saplings in a school so children can track butterfly species and learn about them as the plants grow.
