The climate crisis is threatening health systems and impacting individuals and communities worldwide. The WHO estimates that 3.6 billion people live in areas highly susceptible to climate change. Climate change is expected to cause an additional 250,000 deaths annually from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea, and heat stress between 2030 and 2050. Despite the severity, there remains a significant gap in financing solutions to mitigate the impact of climate change on human health. In APAC alone, the climate adaptation financing gap for health is estimated at USD 3.52 billion.
To address these challenges, AVPN, with support from Bayer Foundation, has launched “The Climate x Health: Lighthouse for Asia” initiative. This initiative aims to foster and disseminate research and evidence, support on-the-ground innovations, facilitate engagements with policymakers, and attract private investment in the climate and health sectors.
