Learn more about Wellcome Trust’s call to support high-impact, locally led randomised controlled trials that optimise licensed pharmaceutical interventions for infectious diseases. Up to £8 million per award is available for transdisciplinary teams based in Africa, South Asia or South-East Asia.
About the Call for Applications
Wellcome is looking for projects with a focus on optimising an existing vaccine or therapeutic targeting one of the following disease areas:
- mycobacterial infections: tuberculosis, leprosy or infections with non-tuberculous mycobacteria
- bacterial infections: sexually transmitted infections, lower respiratory tract infections or bloodstream infections
- invasive fungal infections
- dengue, leishmaniasis or schistosomiasis
The clinical trial should generate evidence that can inform changes to policy and practice, ultimately improving prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries. The deadline to submit your application is Tuesday 2 June 2026.
