ASIA’S CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION INITIATIVE (ASCENT)
Advancing the People-Centric Energy Transition Agenda in Asia Pacific
INTRODUCTION
ASCENT: Catalysing Asia’s clean energy future
The Asia's Clean Energy Transition Initiative (ASCENT) is a new initiative spearheaded by AVPN and will focus on building capacity for the ecosystem at large and facilitate the channelling of catalytic capital toward small-scale/early-stage solutions and scale them with direct financing. We aim to leverage the trusted partnerships that we have established in recent years with key policy stakeholders, funders and investors in the ecosystem to build a powerful coalition of actors with a shared commitment to accelerate just energy transition to achieving net zero targets in Asia.
Our commitment to a just energy transition is centred on the principle of fairness—ensuring that both the costs and benefits of the climate transition are shared equitably across all stakeholders.
PEOPLE FIRST
People-centric approaches are essential

The green energy sector is expected to create a significant number of new jobs in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region by 2030, with an estimated 14 million green jobs. These jobs will span various industries, from renewable energy to sustainable technologies, as countries transition toward more environmentally friendly practices.

Diversification of community economy, such as increased export variety, leads to new regional economic growth and heightened productivity—for example, 10% of increase in export variety leads to 1.3% increased productivity

Energy consumers need secure, affordable, and accessible energy solutions during the transition. Protecting consumers from disruptions and encouraging adoption is vital to ensure widespread support for renewable energy initiatives.

SMEs make up 97% of APAC enterprises and 70% of national employment, yet have fewer resources than large firms to meet transition goals. As the economic backbone of the region, they need targeted support to navigate policies, access technical resources, and secure fi nancing for energy transition.
ENERGY FOR ALL
New narratives of people-centric energy transition
The Asia-Pacific region’s shift toward sustainable energy faces significant challenges. Despite progress, there's an urgent need to prioritise People-Centric solutions—approaches that place communities at the heart of decision-making. Key issues include limited awareness of People-Centric solutions, fragmented funding efforts, and lack of cohesive action across diverse stakeholders.
