Karen Hilltribes Trust

The Karen Hilltribes Trust (KHT) was founded in 2002 by Penelope Worsley to work with the Karen people to help them to develop their own social, educational and economic infrastructure.  The Karen people are the largest ethnic minority group  in Thailand and over 22% live below the poverty line.  KHT has benefited around 200,000 individuals in over 400 villages in the Mae Hong Son province, an area of north west Thailand close to the Burma border,  with projects that improve health through access to clean water and sanitation, improve opportunities for education with transport to schools and university sponsorship, and improve income generation through land regeneration and irrigation.
