Deshpande Foundation

The Deshpande Foundation was established in 2007 to bring about a sustainable change by economically empowering rural and semi-urban communities in India. We envision a world where increasing numbers of individuals and organizations are driven by entrepreneurial energy to create and grow enterprises that address social challenges and market opportunities. Our journey started as a grant-making and skilling organisation in Hubballi, a district in Karnataka in south India. Over the years, with community trust and increased connection at the ground level, we have transitioned to an implementing organization. We have persevered to continuously improve our understanding of the ecosystem, the need, and the challenges of rural and semi-urban India. Gradually, this has resulted in pilots and programs that we believe are capable of tackling the burning issues of our communities at scale. We work in 4 Impact Units – agriculture, skilling, micro entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship. We strongly believe in a structured experimentation methodology like a Product development life cycle,by bringing the best practices from For-Profit world into the Non- Profit sector and testing this into a Sandbox/specific geographical area prior to scaling. Our philosophy for the social sector is Relevance + Innovation = Impact
