At Janaagraha, our mission is to transform quality of life in India’s cities and towns. Our ethos is based on Systemic Change for Sustainable Cities wherein cities need to go beyond quick fixes to address the root causes of urban challenges. Efforts to improve infrastructure and services in cities are supported by efforts to improve the systems that deliver them. This includes laws, policies, institutions, processes, capacities, and frameworks.
Janaagraha recently completed twenty years and here is a commemorative of our work and impact. Most recently, we had Bridgespan Group India work with us on a new strategy, highlight of which is to mainstream climate, public health and equity (gender and urban poor) into our work. Our work per se continues to stay focused on participatory governance in cities and reforms to city-systems (governance systems in cities, covering urban planning and design, public finance systems, state capacities, empowered mayors and councils, and transparency and citizen participation).
As an organization we are based out of Bangalore with presence in New Delhi and Bhubaneswar amongst other cities. We are particularly keen to deepen our work at the intersection of our traditional work on governance and participation in cities on the one hand, public health systems and climate, and equity (gender and urban poor) in cities, on the other.
