The Nippon Foundation

The Nippon Foundation (NF) were established in 1962 as the Japan Shipbuilding Industry Foundation, to promote the reconstruction of postwar Japan through the development of the shipbuilding and shipping industries. Chairman is Yohei Sasakawa. Primary funding source is 2.8% of the proceeds from Japanese motorboat racing. We are the biggest private foundation in Japan, and one of the world leading foundations. Our mission is “Social Innovation”. We provide resources (especially, financial resources as grants) to projects run by nonprofit organizations around the world basically. The projects we support mainly are, for example, solving ocean-related issues, addressing child poverty, support for disaster recovery, Paralympic support, and elimination of leprosy etc.
