Asia Science Mission (ASM) is a regional, science-driven initiative that brings together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, communities, businesses, and philanthropic partners to accelerate sustainability transformations across Asia. Selected by the International Science Council as a pilot Science Mission for Sustainability, ASM bridges the gap between knowledge generation and real-world action by supporting collaborative solutions to complex socio-ecological challenges.
ASM addresses interconnected challenges, including climate change, water security, food systems, biodiversity loss, disaster risk, and sustainable livelihoods, through transdisciplinary research, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-informed decision-making. Rather than supporting isolated projects, ASM provides a platform for cross-sector collaboration, comparative learning, and collective impact across countries and regions.
A key component of ASM is the development of Mission Labs and Demonstration Sites that serve as living laboratories for testing, adapting, and scaling sustainability solutions. These initiatives are supported by a regional knowledge and learning infrastructure that synthesizes evidence, identifies pathways for implementation, and translates scientific findings into actionable insights for governments, investors, development partners, and communities.
ASM also strengthens regional capacity through partnerships, knowledge exchange, analytical tools, and inclusive approaches that integrate scientific, Indigenous, and local knowledge systems. By connecting science, policy, practice, and investment, ASM helps stakeholders make informed decisions and accelerate implementation at scale.
Operating across diverse socio-ecological contexts in Asia, ASM seeks to build a community of action capable of responding to emerging sustainability challenges while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement, and the broader global sustainability agenda.
