The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is a global research center dedicated to providing policy solutions aimed at reducing poverty and ending hunger and malnutrition. Established in 1975, IFPRI is part of the CGIAR network, the world’s largest international agricultural research consortium.
IFPRI’s mission focuses on transforming food systems to ensure food security and improve nutrition, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The institute conducts research on a wide range of topics, including agricultural economics, climate change, gender equality, and sustainable development. With a staff of around 600 employees from over 60 countries, IFPRI operates in more than 80 countries, collaborating with local, national, and international partners.
One of IFPRI’s key strengths is its interdisciplinary approach, combining social science research with practical policy analysis. This enables the institute to address complex global challenges effectively. IFPRI’s work has had significant impacts, such as influencing Mexico’s Progresa social protection program and contributing to the liberalization of rice markets in Vietnam.
Overall, IFPRI plays a crucial role in shaping policies that promote sustainable agricultural practices, enhance food security, and improve
the livelihoods of vulnerable populations worldwide.
