IMS (International Media Support) is a global media development organisation dedicated to supporting and safeguarding public interest media and fostering enabling environments for freedom of expression. We recognise media as a public good, with public interest journalism playing a key role in supporting peaceful, stable societies. By strengthening access to reliable information and enabling inclusive dialogue our work not only drives progress on SDG 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions) but also advances other critical goals, including climate action and gender equality.
IMS works locally through our country and regional programmes, in partnership with local media, civil society, and policy actors. We provide holistic support to our media partners through activity-based funding, capacity strengthening and co-creation, and coalition building for media support and advocacy. Our approach is locally led, community-driven, and adaptive—grounded in lived realities and designed to enable lasting, systemic change.
Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, IMS was established as a non-profit in 2001 and operates across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. In Asia, we work in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Over the past two decades, we have built trusted partnerships with 70+ local media organisations across South and Southeast Asia.
