We can’t protect basic rights or the planet without law. Yet law is often out of reach for those who need it the most. Namati is the leading global organization dedicated to legal empowerment, which is about putting the power of law in the hands of people.
Namati advances social and environmental justice by building a movement of people to know, use, and shape the law. Namati works in partnership with community paralegals —grassroots organizers with a sharp understanding of law—to help people protect their land, pursue sustainable development, and exercise basic rights to citizenship and dignified healthcare in six countries. The paralegals support their communities to protect common lands, enforce environmental law, and secure basic rights to healthcare and citizenship. Together with the communities we serve, we strive to translate the lessons from this grassroots experience into positive, large-scale changes to laws and systems.
Globally, Namati convenes the Grassroots Justice Network, the world’s largest community of justice defenders—now 4,300 organizations strong across 189 countries. We bring members together to connect, learn, and act to put the power of law in the hands of people.
