Renaissance Philanthropy’s mission is to fuel 21st century renaissance by increasing the ambition of philanthropists, scientists, and innovators.
We support philanthropists and foundations in developing and implementing ambitious strategies leveraging science, technology, and innovation. We do this by designing, incubating, and launching time-bound, thesis-driven funds.
Each fund consists of three core components and can start with the formation of any one of these elements:
- A field strategist who can develop and advance a field-level agenda, as opposed to the agenda of a single company, organization, or lab. They have deep domain expertise and connectivity within their field which enables them to identify bottlenecks, surface compelling opportunities, and mobilize ideas, individuals, and organizations to advance the entire field.
- A time-bound, compelling thesis which clearly articulates what the Fund will accomplish in a specific time frame, the unique role for philanthropy, the minimum amount of capital required, the appropriate levers required to achieve its goals (see our playbooks), and a framework for how impact will be measured and sustained beyond the fund.
- An anchor funder. A donor that anchors the fund either fully or partially to help develop a coalition of partners.
