Riverrecycle Oy was founded in 2019 in Finland to create financially sustainable solutions to the plastic problem. Together with the first CCF funding in 2020 for the Citarum Repair project, RiverRecycle has raised over 5 million dollars for four other similar projects from the foreign ministries of Finland, Denmark, the United Kingdom, The European Union, and numerous private corporations. Currently, Riverrecycle facilitates five operations in Indonesia, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, and Ghana, recover over 300 metric tonnes of waste per month from the environment. The operations employ up to 113 people with a core team of 14 seasoned professionals in 8 countries.
Riverrecycle aim to stop plastic pollution transmitted by rivers to the oceans by implementing a holistic solution of installing river cleaners on the most polluting rivers in the world, establish recycling facilities nearby river cleaning operations, scale up recycling facilities’ capacity to make profit to finance river cleaning operations, and establish land-based collection operations to collect plastics before they enter the rivers.
