Stars Foundation invests in organisations and ideas that transform the lives of disadvantaged children and their communities globally. Since it’s inception, Stars has identified strong, grassroots organisations responding to the needs of children and young people in their care.

Founded in 2001 by His Excellency Amr Al-Dabbagh and the Al-Dabbagh Group, Stars combines our founding donor’s entrepreneurial heritage with a dedication to local solutions.Stars harnesses the insight, assets and ambition of civil society organisations around the world and the private sector, enabling them to achieve powerful social change.

Stars’ flagship programme, the Impact Awards have recognised local civil society organisations in 42 countries, reaching almost five million people. Our package of support always includes flexible, locally-led funding and non-financial support, to allow organisations to direct resources where they need it most – to respond to changing realities on the ground, invest in the future, or simply keep the lights on.

In 2015 we worked with 7 other Funders (Stars, Nike Foundation, Novo Foundation, MamaCash, EMpower, Global Fund for Children, Malala Fund and Plan UK) to launch a new Awards programme, the With and For Girls Awards.

Through the With and For Girls Awards initiative we find and fund local, girl-centred and girl-led organisations working with and for girls in every region of the world. The Collective demonstrates that donors can fund in a meaningful way, allowing grassroots girl-led organisations to receive the flexible funding they so desperately need.

We also seek to engage in dialogue and collaboration with other funders across sectors and to influence changes in funding practice so that more flexible funding can reach grassroots groups working with young people.
