The Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago Trust in India (EPIC India) was launched in 2014. The current global energy challenge requires balancing the need for inexpensive and reliable energy to foster economic growth while limiting environmental and health damages and guarding against disruptive climate change. Housed at the University of Chicago’s Centre in Delhi, EPIC India employs a comprehensive strategy to effect real change through cutting-edge research and targeted engagement with local stakeholders.
Over the last decade, researchers from EPIC India have been working with stakeholders in India’s energy and environment ecosystem, both nationally and at the state level, to solve tests and scale innovative policies to reduce air pollution and environmental degradation. Our researchers have partnerships with over 12 states, where we work closely with state pollution control boards, environment and transport departments, as well as CSOs and private sector organisations on a variety of policy issues such as air pollution, congestion, waste, and water. Most notably, EPIC India researchers have worked closely with state governments on leveraging market-based mechanisms to manage pollution.
