UWC movement
“The striking thing about the United World Colleges is that they embrace the entire world across all divides of race, history, culture, wealth, religion, economic status and political belief.”—Nelson Mandela, Honorary President, UWC movement

UWC South East Asia (UWCSEA) is a member of the UWC movement. UWC schools, colleges and programmes deliver a challenging and transformative educational experience to a diverse range of students, inspiring them to create a more peaceful and sustainable future. The UWC movement was founded in 1962 with the vision of bringing together young people whose experience was of the political conflict of the cold war era, offering an educational experience based on shared learning, collaboration and understanding so that the students would act as champions of peace. All members of the UWC movement remain committed to this goal today but have expanded our reach to embrace the tensions and conflicts that exist within, as well as between, societies.

UWC has 15 schools and colleges across five continents. All enrol students in Grades 11 and 12, and some offer a one-year pre-IB programme (similar to the Foundation IB year developed by UWCSEA) in addition to the two-year IB Diploma. Atlantic College, the first UWC college founded in 1962, was instrumental in the establishment of the IB Diploma as an internationally recognised pre-university qualification.

UWCSEA was the second member of the UWC movement, opened by Lee Kuan Yew as Singapore International School in 1971. SIS became UWC South East Asia in 1975 and gradually expanded to become the K–12 international school of over 5,400 students across two campuses that it is today.

The schools and colleges of the UWC movement are united by their common mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.
