Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (WIAI or Wadhwani AI) is a non-profit AI research institute with the objective of building and deploying AI/ML solutions to solve social challenges in low and middle-income countries. We combine cutting edge AI/ML research with domain expertise, user design research and software engineering to develop solutions for large scale public welfare programmes in healthcare, agriculture, education etc. We work closely with governments and civil society organizations to integrate these solutions within their programmes to enable personnel such as frontline workers, agriculture extension officers, lab technicians etc augment their work with AI/ML. Our goal is to improve programme efficacy and efficiency resulting in better outcomes for beneficiaries. Additionally, we provide capacity-building programmes to our partners so they can better understand applied AI/ML in development. Presently we work in healthcare (Maternal and child health and infectious diseases) and agriculture with around 12 AI/ML solutions at various stages of development and deployment. We have a team of over 90 staff based mostly in India, which is where most of our work is focused at this point.
