The World Mosquito Program protects communities from mosquito-borne diseases, offering a safe, natural, and cost-effective method to reduce the threat of diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya and yellow fever. It involves the introduction of the naturally occurring insect bacterium Wolbachia into Aedes aegypti mosquito populations; these Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes have a much-reduced ability to transmit viruses. Our first releases started in 2011 in Australia. Since then, the World Mosquito Program has deployed its innovative technology over 13 million people across 35 localities in 14 countries.
