Yayasan Tahija is a non-profit organization established in Jakarta by the late Mrs. Jean Tahija and Mr. Julius Tahija in 1990. Yayasan Tahija is a formal vehicle for the philanthropic initiatives of the Tahija family.
Since 2011, Yayasan Tahija focused its activities nearly exclusively on the “World Mosquito Program” in Yogyakarta (EMP-Yogya). WMP-Yogya aims to establish an efficient and sustainable method of breaking the dengue transmission chain by replacing “wild” Ae. aegypti with a population of Ae. Aegypti that carry a natural insect-borne bacteria called Wolbahia. This techniquie, originally developed by Prof. Scot O’Neill in Australia, is now being applied in numerous countries in Asia and Oceania as well as South America by the World Mosquito Program.
