About the fund
This next round of the AVPN Healthcare Pooled Fund focuses on supporting interventions that improve Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) outcomes in Southeast Asia. The fund will support the work of non-profit impact organisations in four countries – Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
Due to the pandemic, the progress of MNCHN outcomes have been slowed and in some cases reversed, putting many women and children at higher risk of morbidity and mortality. It is clear that in order for the region to recover stronger post-pandemic, priority needs to be given to improving the access and quality of MNCHN services. Studies have shown that there is at least a 10-fold return on investments in the health and nutrition of women, children and adolescents. As such, focusing on healthier women and children propels the long-term productivity of a nation that in turn contributes to the overall social and economic well-being of the population.
Through the second round of this healthcare pooled fund, unrestricted funding was awarded to 4 inspiring Non-Profit Organisations working to strengthen MNCHN services in their respective communities. Learn more about them below.

CAMBODIA
Reducing childhood mortality in rural areas of Cambodia through AHC’s Saving Babies’ Lives (SBL) programme which focuses on the continuum of neonatal healthcare across rural areas, from community care to basic primary-level care to hospital-level care.
Key Outcomes:
- Empowered and mobilised communities that take ownership of quality healthcare services.
- Strengthened primary healthcare professionals through training in neonatal care.
- Installed fully-equipped neonatal units in hospitals.
- Strengthened hospital staffs and professionals through mentorship and neonatal training.
Angkor Hospital for Children
PHILIPPINES
Reducing maternal deaths in the Philippines by improving postnatal check which also consequently reduces infant death.
Key Outcomes:
- Adopted local policies that support MNCHN services by facilitating data-driven guidance and ordinance formulation.
- Improved MNCHN services by addressing gaps in human resources infrastructure and equipment;
- Strengthened MNCHN service delivery in emergencies and disaster situations;
- Increased demand and use of MNCHN services by organising and mobilising community health and nutrition teams.
International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR)
VIETNAM
Promoting an inclusive and optimal development for children in Vietnam’s home-based childcare centres by empowering their providers to make mealtime appealing and effective for children learning and nourishment.
Key Outcomes:
- Developed a holistic nutrition, feeding, and child development curriculum.
- Strengthened home-based childcare system through training provided to providers and staffs on optimal nutrition, feeding, and development for children;
- Implemented mealtime programme through playful, interactive activities.
SPOON Foundation

Reducing infant and maternal mortality rate by promoting holistic and data-driven pregnancy care among women especially factory workers in Indonesia.
Key Outcomes:
- Strengthened primary healthcare and factory clinic workers pregnancy care.
- Improved knowledge on reproductive health and pregnancy among pregnant women, women of reproductive age and factory management.
- Improved health outcomes and nutrition intake during pregnancy through anaemia examination and supplementary diets.
- Improved knowledge on the importance of health and protection for pregnant women among the public.

Who is eligible to apply?
Organisation Status
- Registered Non-Profit Organisations
- Operates in Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam
- Cleared from all global sanctions lists, and not blacklisted by any UN or international agency
- Full compliance to PCA (Singapore), FCPA (US) or any equivalent anti-corruption laws
- Should NOT be the following:
- Government entity or organization;
- School, academic institution, or university
- Religious organisation (e.g. church, synagogue, mosque etc.)

You are eligible to apply if your work focuses on Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health and Nutrition for vulnerable and underserved groups.

Governance & Ask
- Track record of financial accounts (audited accounts for the last 2 years preferred)
- Minimum grant ask of USD 100,000 and maximum of USD 300,000 (grant ask should not exceed 30% of total operating budget)
- It is anticipated that the fund will select at least 4 grantees. AVPN reserves the right to adjust the grant disbursement

It is a second round AVPN Southeast Asia Healthcare Pooled Fund which focuses on maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCHN) in the four Southeast Asia countries – Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Building on the first round healthcare pooled fund, this pioneer innovative pooled fund provides unrestricted funding to support the work of impact organizations in improving the health and well-being of mothers, newborn, and children in vulnerable and underserved communities in Southeast Asia.
Funding that is not restricted and can be used for core support* (indirect, overhead costs), but organisations need to demonstrate how receiving the funding can further their mission aligned to the funds’ thematic areas.
Since this fund provides unrestricted funding, it is up to your discretion to decide how you would like to use the proceeds as long as they contribute towards the impact areas outlined.
Yes, you can seek additional funding from other sources to scale your project.
Impact organisations can apply for grants ranging from USD 100K to USD 300K. The proposed grant must not exceed 30% of the organisation’s total operating budget.
This fund provides unrestricted funding with the duration of the grant being 1 (one) year. In terms of reporting, once you are selected as one of the grantees, we will work with you in identifying reporting requirements & milestones and support you where required.

No, this fund is only eligible for legally registered Non-Profit Organisations. Please evaluate if your organisation fulfills this criteria before proceeding to apply for this fund.

In identifying successful grantees, we will be looking at the organisation’s eligibility and alignment to the key criteria and impact areas that have been outlined.
Applications are evaluated by an Operating and Grant Committee based on the criteria that have been shared. The application form requires you to provide information about your organisation and your solution across the following criteria:
- Business model and traction to date
- Financial Stability & Sustainability
- Social Impact
- Problem-solution Fit
- Team, Board and Advisors
Each section of the form has a word count limitation. It is up to your discretion to provide as much relevant information about the project, within the word count.
You can only apply as a single organisation. Coalitions will however not be accepted. One organisation can only submit one application.
On the application form, under ‘Organisation Details – Financial Sustainability’, you will be asked to state the amount of your grant ask. Accompanying that, you will need to upload a budget sheet corresponding to the grant amount sought. The simple budget sheet may include indirects, implementation and/or salaries, among others. There is no specific format.
You will be able to upload all necessary documents through the online application portal.
