AVPN Deal Share Platform Wins Distinction in Swiss Philanthropy Foundation Award

Curated Online Platform Bridges Social Investment between Funders and Social Purpose Organisations

11 September 2017, Geneva, Switzerland – The AVPN Deal Share Platform (DSP) – a curated platform that enables funders and resource providers to connect with Social Purpose Organisations (SPOs) and co-invest in them – won the Distinction award at the 10th anniversary Swiss Philanthropy Foundation “Great!” event. The event, which aimed to celebrate philanthropy in its diversity, highlighted 10 innovative initiatives from around the world that have made traction in the social sector.

The DSP is one of the five key pillars of AVPN, the only pan-Asian network for social investors that seeks to increase the flow of strategic capital into the social sector. Launched in 2016, the DSP serves to address a fundamental issue that philanthropists and social investors face whilst trying to support SPOs – the lack of connections between funders and SPOs. While funders may be willing to pledge financial and non-financial support, identifying a quality SPO is not easy. Conversely, SPOs requiring continued support to scale sustainably have challenges connecting with relevant funders.

To this end, AVPN has built a resource and funding pipeline for qualified SPOs to gain continued resources at different growth stages. By streamlining communication about existing and prospective funding opportunities, the AVPN DSP not only increases the visibility of quality SPOs, but also enables members to further collaborate and co-invest in SPOs in a more targeted manner.

Complementing the Deal Share online efforts that have over 200 live deals to date, the AVPN Deal Share Live sessions highlight interesting and successful projects in Asia that are supported by our members to the wider community at the annual AVPN Conference, as well as at curated events. These sessions are integral in ensuring that action is taken on these deals by giving both investors and investees exposure and visibility to other grant-funders, impact investors and possible partners in the region. It is also an opportunity for social investors to hear from the SPOs on their implementation work on the ground, to understand how they work with resource providers, and identify how various stakeholders can collaborate with each other.

“We are extremely honoured and humbled to have received the Award, but our work is far from done,” says AVPN CEO, Naina Batra. “Our next step is to catalyse pooled funding for under-represented causes with high-impact potential through high quality SPOs.”  With a fund that pools capital from across the spectrum of social investors, SPOs’ needs can be addressed to drive deeper impact.

Lastly, AVPN also seeks to enhance the mentoring portion of Deal Share Live this year, and actively welcomes social investors to get involved.
