AVPN Founder Member Diversity

Share

The mission of AVPN is to build a vibrant and high impact venture philanthropy community across Asia. We will achieve this by linking organisations and people who are practising, supporting or learning about the venture philanthropy approach to creating significant social impact, helping them exchange information and experience and promoting best practice. At the heart of AVPN’s network are the member organisations. By mid-June 2012, after our launch and initial recruitment campaign, AVPN had reached 110 Founder Members from 18 countries. This is significantly more than expected and provides a strong platform for future growth.AVPN is building a network from the ground up in Asia and 80 per cent of the founder members are based in Asia Pacific or, if they are regional or global organisations, have joined through their Asian operations.Currently the country in which a member is “based” is the country from which they have applied to join AVPN or have designated as their main contact location. The geographic spread of AVPN’s founder members on this basis is as follows:AVPN Members by geographyIt is more relevant to show and connect members by the countries in which they are active. Being active can mean having offices, people or active transactions in a country or cross-border into the country. This information is available from the Member Directory map on the AVPN website. The most active countries are Singapore, Mainland China, India and Hong Kong (but note that associate members are active in many countries mostly for their main activity and not necessarily for venture philanthropy).Among our founder members, 35 have joined as practising members. These organisations are applying a venture philanthropy approach and have varying strategies, including funding both non-profits and social enterprises. The philanthropic and social investment markets are still at an early stage of development in most Asia Pacific countries and models for impact investing and philanthropic capital, and the boundaries and overlap between them, are evolving.AVPN has 16 founder members who describe their main (or relevant) activity as impact investing and, of these, 10 have joined as practising members. The other impact investors have joined as associate members and are active participants in the VP and social investment ecosystem in Asia. The diversity of the main (or relevant) activities of AVPN’s founder members is summarised as follows:AVPN Members by activityThe easiest way to learn more about, and connect with, AVPN’s members is the online Member Directory. Here members can be located by their type (either practising members or associate members), by their main activity, by the countries they are active in or by their main or preferred social sectors. Alternatively, searching under an organisation name will link to a member profile that includes an email contact form.In addition to its members, AVPN is developing a broader network of active VP supporters and followers. The broader network comprises both prospective members as well as others interested in learning about and supporting the VP community in Asia Pacific. The broader network currently includes more than 1,200 organisations and 2,000 contacts.
