It was great to see over 390 people over the three days of the AVPN conference gathered with a single mission in mind – how to maximise social impact.

AVPN is all about creating platforms where we can share experiences and leverage off each other. This is critical to enhancing impact in the social space. If each of the delegates took home just one idea from our conference and applied it to their operations, we can be sure that we will be definitely multiplying the impact that we already have.

Asia is clearly the growth story of today – and of tomorrow. As its markets mature and bold infrastructure investments begin to pay off, the continent’s new powerhouse economies will continue on an exciting upward trajectory. The hope is that the impressive economic success in Asia, especially in China, could see an exponential rise in philanthropic activity in the region within the next two decades. I believe the next few years will not only see philanthropic donations in Asia rise to historic levels, but will also witness an increasingly organised Asian philanthropic generation thanks to increased awareness and higher degrees of engagement.

We at the conference have tried through the content and sessions to highlight the key themes that are important in the journey towards achieving deeper social impact. These included potential, innovation, impact, sustainability and scale.

One thing though is clear. Large-scale social change requires broad cross-sector coordination, not the isolated intervention of individual organizations. The challenges are too large for any one of us to deal with single-handedly.

AND this is why organisations like AVPN are critically important.

We also introduced the AVPN Connector just prior to the conference, which we are very proud to say was developed entirely in house by Kevin Teo our COO with help from our IT consultant Kang Fei and our membership services executive Amanda Yap. We do hope that the connector will be used more by our members in the coming months to identify potential partners and share knowledge and experiences.

We hope the conference gave most of you ample opportunities to connect across the network. Our members tell us that access to the network is the biggest value add that AVPN brings to them and our conference is an annual event to bring that network into one space.

Another value add to being a part of the AVPN is to have a platform where one can share concerns, learnings and experiences as funders. There are not many (if any) safe spaces where funders who provide financial, human and intellectual capital can discuss THEIR concerns.

We do hope that the conference and the side events have provided a number of learning opportunities for all of you. I found the dialogue in the various rooms to be engaging and of a very high caliber.

Of course the conference would not have been the great success it was without the outstanding presentations from so many distinguished speakers, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them. They merit a thank you from all of us not only for volunteering to address an august group, but also for their hard work in preparing, and for their words of wisdom.

See YOU ALL at AVPN’s 3rd conference in 2015 and Lets Go Out and Make A Difference Naina
