Non-profit organisations (NPOs) across Indonesia play a critical role in addressing a wide range of social and environmental challenges. However, many continue to face structural barriers that limit their ability to grow and sustain their impact, particularly due to uneven access to relevant and high-quality capacity-building support. This report examines the current capacity-building landscape, with the aim of better aligning available support with the evolving needs of NPOs.
Drawing on a mixed-methods approach involving 54 NPOs, service providers, and funders, the study highlights persistent gaps in key areas such as fundraising, leadership, and digital skills. It also brings attention to regional disparities, particularly in Eastern Indonesia, where access to tailored and context-specific support remains limited.
This report is intended to serve as a practical resource for funders and capacity-building providers. It identifies core barriers—including high costs and a lack of localised expertise—and sets out strategic recommendations to support the development of more inclusive, accessible, and context-responsive systems. Ultimately, it aims to contribute to a stronger, more resilient non-profit ecosystem across Indonesia.
