Asia-Pacific’s continued progress depends on the full inclusion of its 2.3 billion women and girls across economies, in classrooms, in health systems, and in the decisions that shape their communities. Yet women and girls across the region continue to face compounding barriers, such as limited access to finance and economic opportunity, persistent gaps in education and healthcare, and climate shocks. At the current pace of progress, full gender parity remains 123 years away.
Improving outcomes for women and girls is a key impact area for impact practitioners in the AVPN network. To understand how capital is currently being mobilised toward this goal, this brief draws on data from the Social Investment in Action – Asia (SIAA) Dashboard, an AI-powered tool that tracks publicly reported, English-language impact activities of AVPN members across Asia-Pacific. While not exhaustive, the dataset provides a useful snapshot of regional investment patterns, key actors, and gaps across impact areas, and reveals a clear mismatch between activity, capital, and strategic need.
These insights are consistent with the wider regional reality, where progress on gender equality remains uneven and financing remains inadequate relative to the scale of need. Advancing outcomes for women and girls will require not only more funding, but more targeted investment and stronger enabling conditions across the ecosystem.
