Beyond Training: How Capacity Building Transforms Nonprofit Organisations

Share

This study, commissioned by AVPN, set out to answer that question rigorously and openly, not just through theory, but through the lived experiences of those who are an integral part of the capacity building ecosystem. The full report addresses a broad set of questions that will resonate with anyone working in or alongside the social sector:

  • How do funders decide which model of capacity building to fund and does it matter?
  • What separates a capacity building programme that changes an organisation from one that probably scratches the surface?
  • How should Capacity Building outcomes be measured when the benefits accrue slowly and attribution is rarely straightforward?
  • Which organisations are being left behind by the current capacity building ecosystem and why?
  • What do nonprofits say they actually need, as opposed to what they are offered?
  • What are the best practices in designing and implementing effective capacity building programmes?
  • What are the challenges that all intermediaries face, but often overcome, in adopting capacity building?
