AVPN March Webinar: Modern Slavery and the Role of Corporates

Share

According a recent report produced by the International Labor Organization (ILO), more than 40 million people around the world are victims of modern slavery – forced labour and forced marriage.
In addition, about 152 million children are subject to child labour.

The majority of modern slavery today happens in the private economy, which is why engaging with the business community – alongside employers’ and workers’ organisations, and civil society organisations – to eradicate modern slavery is essential.

In this webinar, AVPN members and corporate foundations shared their efforts around combating modern slavery. The Macquarie Group Foundation embarked on a long-term, regional project in Asia around modern slavery, specifically on issues affecting migrant domestic workers; The C&A Foundation is making fashion a force of good by creating more transparency and traceability in the fashion supply chains and eradicating forced and child labour.

The webinar focused on the following topics:

  • C&A Foundation’s work around eradicating forced labour while strengthening communities.
  • Macquarie Group Foundation‘s projects working to raise awareness on modern slavery and support long-term change.
  • Discussed specific gaps and challenges that other corporates and/or foundations can support in an effort to combat this serious topic.
