A Review of Social Enterprise Activity in the Philippines

The study provides an assessment of the current social enterprise landscape in the Philippines based on a sample of stakeholder interviews and online evidence, to identify the specific skills needed by social enterprises, the main barriers to social enterprise growth, and recommendations on how to grow the social enterprise space. In this context, the report outlines the evolution of social enterprises in the Philippines, provides an overview of key government support and regulatory barriers, interested investors, investor attitudes and discussion on the barriers to investment, and information about the support organizations within the ecosystem by category and sector. Apart from private and public sector interest, the report recognises the incubation and support provided by the civil society as well. In its totality, this is a comprehensive analysis for policymakers as it examines local social economy regulations such as the the PRESENT bill, along with international legislative case studies from other Asian countries and the UK.
