Arjan de Wagt joined UNICEF India as Chief Nutrition in March 2017.  

A national of the Netherlands, Arjan has 25 years working experience and has been with UNICEF for 20 years. He holds a Masters degree in Nutrition from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Arjan has worked in the area of nutrition across Sub-Saharan Africa, in countries like Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, and Nigeria as well as UNICEF New York headquarters. Prior to coming to India, Arjan worked as Chief Nutrition in UNICEF Nigeria, where he led UNICEF?s nutrition response to the humanitarian crisis in northeast Nigeria due to the Boko Haram insurgence.

Besides his work on nutrition, Arjan has experience working on strengthening health systems through performance-based financing and community insurance schemes and programming on children and HIV. In UNICEF Headquarters he was the UNICEF global coordinator on orphans and vulnerable children and before that the regional focal point on prevention and treatment of HIV in young children in the UNICEF regional office for East Asia and the pacific in Thailand.
