Christian Schaake holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Groningen and is a Dutch national. He worked in the private sector (Xerox, Boston Consulting Group, Ogilvy & Mather, and KLM) before focusing on private-sector fundraising. He started his career in private sector fundraising with Greenpeace as the Fundraising Director for the Netherlands and then as the Fundraising Manager for the Asia Pacific region for Greenpeace International.

In 2007, Christian joined UNHCR as the Senior PSP Officer for Asia and the Pacific as one of the first externally recruited PSP experts. Christian supported the Office to grow UNHCR’s private sector income in Asia exponentially and grew PSP operations in Asia from two (Japan and Australia) to five countries (Hong Kong, Thailand and South Korea in addition to the aforementioned). He then took on the role of Chief of PSP Operations, overseeing the global PSP network in four regions with more than 20 country operations.

Christian was the Head of Service overseeing Private Partnerships and Philanthropy, Supporter Engagement, Global Operations, and Fundraising Support during 1 August 2015 to 30 November 2022. And currently he has returned to Asia region to be Chief of PSP Asia since 1 December 2022.
