Johan started his career over two decades ago in London within the corporate restructuring industry, before transitioning into the alternative investments industry which included stints working for some of the leading private equity and special situation alternative investment firms globally. He returned to Kuala Lumpur in 2010 to take on a senior role within HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad’s Investment Banking division, prior to joining the Affin Banking Group where he took on various leadership roles culminating in his appointment as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AHAM Asset Management Berhad, a leading Malaysian asset management firm and the parent company of Bintang Capital Partners Berhad. Johan founded the Private Equity Department of AHAM in 2016, which ultimately became Bintang in 2018. He is Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director as well as founding shareholder of Bintang. Apart from being a representative director on Bintang's portfolio companies’ boards, Johan also serves as Chairperson of TMK Chemical Berhad (a leading Southeast Asian end-to-end chemical products and solution provider), Chairperson of Transferwise Malaysia Sdn Bhd (the wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary of Wise PLC) and as Non-Executive Director of Active Force Security Services Sdn Bhd (a Malaysian security solutions provider). Other than his corporate interests, Johan is a passionate advocate of impact causes where he serves on boards of various impact organisations, including as Trustee of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (a leading scholarship provider under the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, founded in 1966), as Treasurer of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association (founded in 1959 to assist communities affected by leprosy) and as Trustee of Impact Integrated (a catalyst agency under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia aimed at creating opportunities and empowerment for youth through e-sports and media). Johan holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics, which he attended as a Chevening Commonwealth Scholar. He is also a Fellow Chartererd Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales and a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder. *COMPANY DESCRIPTION* Bintang is an award-winning Malaysian headquartered impact private equity firm which invests in fast-growing ASEAN businesses committed to driving impact through innovation. Bintang was amongst the first private sector firms in Malaysia to become a signatory to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investing in 2021, the first Malaysian signatory to the Operating Principles of Impact Management in 2022, and in 2023 became the first ASEAN-based private equity firm to obtain B Corp Certification. Bintang aspires to build 150 B Corp portfolio companies by 2050.
