Problem

The global fluids and lubricant market is expected to shrink slightly over the next 5 years due to 2 factors:
  1. the advancement of lubricant technology which extends lubricant drain intervals, and
  2. the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) in major markets.

The maritime sector is also going through transformation with its efforts to decarbonise using low carbon fuels like LNG and other alternative fuels like biofuels and ammonia.

In the future, businesses will increasingly want to publicly communicate their carbon footprint of products (CFPs) through the following ways:
  • providing information to consumers and others for decision-making purposes
  • enhance climate change awareness and consumer engagement on environmental issues
  • supporting a company's commitment to tackling climate change
  • support implementation of policies on climate change management

The CFPs also drive the need for these businesses to actively work towards green solutions. To assist these businesses to address cost competitiveness and sustainability for continued business viability, programmes and initiatives have to be provided as necessary tools, and ALIA has the solution for this.

Solution

At ALIA, we aim to help businesses address cost competitiveness and sustainability through programmes and initiatives.

Cost competitiveness is addressed by optimizing total system cost with improved operating efficiencies and inventory reduction through the following:
  1. AP Lubricants Ecosystem Study for full value chain analysis
  2. Industry-wide collaborative programs using cloud platform (digitalization)
    • Supply chain modelling template
    • C-Product online marketplace
  3. Facilitate knowledge development & sharing activities

Sustainability is achieved by:
  1. AP Lubricants Sustainability Roadmap
    • Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
    • Industry-applicable climate change mitigating and adaptive solutions
    • Individual members’ strategies & timelines
    • Value creation initiatives to compensate likely value destruction situations
  2. Slop/waste management
  3. Product reformulation solutions
  4. Manufacturing technology solutions
  5. Green baseoils and additives
  6. Facilitate knowledge development & sharing activities
