Problem

In the last few decades, the world has seen a paradigm shift toward industries and employment. With the looming threat of climate change, industries and economies are gearing their operations towards climate adaptation and promoting a circular economy.

This pivot toward a more sustainable ecosystem has emphasised the need to strengthen and adapt training curricula to address ongoing concerns about environmental management and climate change.

Coupled with the need to tackle the rising rate of unemployment in developing countries, Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutes have given their extensive support by providing youth with technical skills for employment in the industrial sector.

Since such institutions are in a key position to bring such change, the education path for TVET graduates must include the development of green skills, opening up opportunities to tackle climate change in the industrial sector as well as employment. In the Philippines, ASSIST Asia has the solution for this.

Solution

At Assist Asia, we aim to solve the issue of increasing unemployment rate and the development of green skills through the following ways:
  • Supplementing TVET Curricula- the programme focuses on supplementing the gaps in the curricula and pedagogies through a combination of learning activities and opportunities for life, soft, and green skills development.
  • Training Modules- besides co-implementing learning sessions for students and graduates, Train the Trainer sessions will be implemented for TVET instructors, and internship programmes will be developed with select TVET Institutions
  • Continuous Learning- In order for the beneficiaries to learn continuously beyond the project duration, we have uploaded all the training modules supplemented by online learning videos on our ASSIST academy platform.
