The Banyan Academy for Leadership in Mental Health, in collaboration with LEAD at Krea University is organising a discussion on the future directions for health policy and research in India. The webinar will be hosted as a conversation between Principal Economist at LEAD, Shailender Swaminathan and Prof K Srinath Reddy, President of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and will be followed by Q&A with participants.
Prof. K. Srinath Reddy is presently President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and formerly headed the Department of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He is a member of ICMR’s COVID-19 Task Force, and is a part of the Executive Group of the International Steering Committee of WHO’s Covid-19 Solidarity Trial. Prof Reddy was appointed as the First Bernard Lown Visiting Professor of Cardiovascular Health at the Harvard School of Public Health in (2009-13) and presently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard (2014-2023). He is also an Adjunct Professor of the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University and Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. PHFI is engaged in capacity building in Public Health in India through education, training, research, policy development, health communication and advocacy. In March 2017, he was also appointed as Advisor on Health to the Government of Odisha, with the rank of a Cabinet Minister. Shailender Swaminathan is a Principal Economist with LEAD. He provides strategic and thought leadership to shape the organization’s research direction and agenda. Shailender has a Ph.D in Economics from University of Southern California and is an Adjunct faculty member in Brown University’s Department of Health Policy and an Investigator at the Providence Veterans Administration (VA). He has previously held academic and research positions at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, the Public Health Foundation of India, and Brown University.
