About this event

Globally, the race is on to reduce emissions and protect ecosystems, as limiting warming to 1.5C is impossible without doing both.

Markets have not traditionally accounted for the benefits of nature, but our economies are entirely dependent on the natural world. Measuring and valuing natural assets and the services they provide as ‘natural capital’ can encourage investment in nature. But there has been no agreed way to measure natural capital – until now.

After four years working with industry, government, stakeholders and experts, Climateworks has released version 1.0 of the Natural Capital Measurement Catalogue. This digital resource includes an agreed, evidence-based set of metrics for natural capital and information on how to use them.

Climateworks CEO Anna Skarbek hosts this webinar exploring the catalogue, its uses and the emerging international disclosure frameworks it’s aligned with.

Food, Land and Ocean System Lead Liam Walsh will outline the development of the catalogue – what we did, who we worked with and how it can help Australia meet its climate goals.

Program Lead Eithne Cahill will showcase the catalogue and some of the ways it can be used for natural capital assessment and accounting.

The event will feature an interview between Anna Skarbek and Carolin Leeshaa, Natural Capital & Biodiversity Lead with KPMG and member of the international Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, who sits on the Advisory Council for the Climateworks initiative behind the catalogue.
