Child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) is a harmful practice and grave human rights violation, which has devastating and life-long negative consequences on girls in particular. It poses serious threat to their physical and mental health, increases their exposure to violence and exclusion from social participation and opportunities. The COVID-19 will hamper the efforts to end child marriage, potentially resulting in an additional 17 million child marriage cases worldwide between 2020 and 2030.
Time to Act – Let’s Go Digital! report examines the role that digital technologies and online solutions play in ending child, early and forced marriage and reducing adolescent pregnancies in the Asia-Pacific region. It also introduces digital technologies that have been developed by the private sector, which can be effective in CEFM prevention and a series of recommendations about how digital technologies can be leveraged most effectively to reach scale and generate impact in eradicating CEFM.
