The agriculture sector employs more than 30% of the population, around 159 million people in Southeast Asia, making it a critical source of livelihood. Yet smallholder farmers across the ASEAN region face a deepening crisis in food production, driven by their vulnerability to climate change and environmental degradation. By 2028, cropland areas in several ASEAN countries are projected to decline by more than 10%, posing a serious threat to regional food security.
Since 2015, Edu Farmers International Foundation (Edufarmers) has been on the ground running demo plots, training smallholder farmers through hands-on innovation, and building partnerships with one goal in mind: improving farmer yields through the adoption of data-driven agricultural practices. To date, we have empowered over 5,000 farmers with ongoing support, resulting in a 30% increase in knowledge of good and sustainable agricultural practices and a 20% adoption rate of those practices in the field.
Our commitment to food security also extends to our latest program pillar: stunting prevention through the ZeroStunting initiative. Beyond food distribution, we train health cadres and educate parents on nutrition and parenting to create long-term, sustainable impact. Since 2022, we’ve distributed over 215,000 eggs to more than 1,500 children vulnerable to stunting, empowered over 200 health cadres, and reached more than 300 health posts across Indonesia.
