Bintang was amongst the first Malaysian signatories to the UN’s Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) and is the first Malaysian signatory to the Operating Principles for Impact Management (Impact Principles), an initiative spearheaded by the International Financial Corporation (IFC) under the World Bank Group.
In May 2023, Bintang became the first B Corp Certified private equity firm in Southeast Asian history.
Bintang’s long term goal is to build 150 B Corp certified portfolio companies by 2050. Commencing with its maiden fund, BCP Asia Fund I, the firm requires that all investee companies obtain B Corp Certification within a pre-set timeline post-investment.
Beyond financial returns, Bintang also aims to create direct social and environmental impact across the communities it operates in. In 2022, the firm established the Bintang Foundation Pledge whereby 10% of Bintang’s profits will be committed to impact, charity, and welfare initiatives in perpetuity. Furthermore, a third of places within Bintang’s annual Internship Programs are reserved for high potential youth from under-represented and under-privileged backgrounds.
